Welcome to Ducklings Class

Our Ducklings Class is the very first step into Nursery life at Hallwood Park. Just like little ducklings taking their early steps, we believe our youngest children grow best when surrounded by warmth, patience and gentle guidance. Because Ducklings is home to the youngest children in our setting, we make sure their day is filled with comfort, connection and opportunities to explore at their own pace.

Our team of caring adults support children through play, helping them navigate early routines, interact with others, and build confidence in a calm and nurturing space. Strong partnerships with families are at the heart of what we do, ensuring every child feels secure, understood and celebrated. Our hope is that by the time they move on from Ducklings, they have gained early independence, confidence, relationship skills and a strong sense of belonging.

Our Learning Approach

In Ducklings, relationships come first. We know children learn best when they feel safe, cared for and confident, so we’ve designed a warm environment where they can settle in and explore at their own pace. Our rooms are calm, natural and inviting, with plenty of opportunities for children to follow their own interests.

We follow the Early Years Statutory Framework, which includes:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Communication, Language and Literacy

  • Physical Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

However, for our youngest children we place the strongest emphasis on:

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development
  • Communication & Language
  • Physical Development

Through simple routines, gentle expectations and lots of encouragement, we help children communicate, express feelings, make early friendships and develop independence. Both indoors and outdoors, children have the freedom to explore, imagine and investigate. We spend lots of time outside, watching the seasons change - yes, even in the rain!

Parents are central to our approach. We keep you updated through regular conversations and via Seesaw, where we share photos, observations and next steps. We invite you to add your own moments from home too so we can build a full picture of your child’s journey.
