Owls Class – Nursery (3–4) and Reception

Welcome to Owls Class, the home of our older Nursery children and our Reception pupils here at Hallwood Park Hallwood Park. Owls is a vibrant, nurturing and curiosity-filled learning space where children develop confidence, independence and a love for learning as they prepare for the adventures ahead in school.

Owls Class is designed to offer rich, inspiring and carefully structured Early Years provision. Children explore a well-resourced indoor environment and a fantastic outdoor area that encourages creativity, problem-solving and physical development. Because our EYFS teams work closely together, children in Owls also benefit from the smooth transitions they experienced throughout their time in Ducklings.

Learning in Owls

Our curriculum in Owls Class is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework, with a strong focus on language development, early reading, early maths and personal, social and emotional growth. Learning takes place through play, exploration and engaging adult-led sessions.

Children in Owls enjoy:

  • Daily phonics using Essential Letters and Sounds
  • Early maths through Mastering Number (NCETM)
  • A language-rich environment full of stories, role-play and conversation
  • Skill-building activities across the prime and specific areas of learning
  • Outdoor learning and physical development opportunities every day
  • Carefully planned enhancements linked to termly topics
  • Opportunities to read and enjoy stories and rhymes
  • Bucket time: a fun attention grabbing carpet session
  • Opportunities to mix with Ducklings for shared play, developing confidence across the whole EYFS setting

Teaching is carefully planned to support both Nursery and Reception learners, ensuring every child is challenged and supported appropriately.
